So, in the Alexa app, I went to Settings, then to device settings, selected an Echo device, went to communications, and then finally, I enabled communications but turned off drop-in. It's the best, most affordable choice if you don't care about music quality and just want an always-listening assistant. It's also the best choice if you care a lot about the sound quality of music.
